SHAPING THE FUTURE OF THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Digitalisation in the construction industry is becoming increasingly important, and the FUCHS family of companies is now better equipped for the future thanks to the implementation of BIM-based costing, among other things.

Successful implementation of BIM for costing automation for the FUCHS family of companies

The FUCHS family of companies had set itself the goal of being one of the first medium-sized construction companies to use BIM. The project comprised the sub-project management iTWO Baseline and the implementation of the BIM-based costing and was to increase the cost planning quality, reduce routine work and harmonize the costing master data through the complete automation of the LV creation. The project covered the period from 09/2020 to 04/2022.

Automated bills of quantities and calculations in the construction industry

Dynamic partial service catalogs
We use dynamic (parameterized) partial service catalogs to enable the automated creation of service specifications and calculations from a digital building information model. Here, important component properties are provided with parameters from the model data and costing approaches are mapped in a parameterized manner. The automated generation of mass determinations and bills of quantities significantly facilitates the work of cost estimators.

Advantages of model-based working methods
The model-based working method enables faster and more reliable quantity takeoff and the creation of bills of quantities from a digital building information model. This enables cost estimators to concentrate more on their core work, price determination, and to take care of the focal items. The model-based way of working thus represents a forward-looking experience for the construction industry.
